Using enterprise-ready open source software to assemble solutions is proving to be an effective approach to creating a more agile enterprise (as opposed to building (custom code), buying (proprietary software), or renting (Application Service Provider, Software as a Service)

Assemble defined: Web service components, be they open source, proprietary or custom built, can be combined into a Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) to create applications that can be easily modified over time at the component level. Other terms used to describe the same general concept include composite applications, loosely-coupled, orchestrated and mash-ups.
